First, every typographic decision you make is saying something.
Some typefaces whisper, some shout, and some slap you in the face.

Sans-Serif:
Modern, clinical.
Serif:
Traditional, sophisticated.
The rabbit hole goes a lot deeper than that, but since we're focused on getting from zero to one, we'll leave it there for now.
Typography is another visual tool to lead your reader.
Pick up a newspaper and scan it. Your eye will naturally pick out elements in order of importance. Remember this idea when you're designing any content that includes the written word.
