CYCLING RULES AND RESTRICTIONS
1. Drafting with another bicycle or vehicle is not allowed. A pass is considered complete when the front wheel of the overtaking athlete reaches the front wheel of the overtaken athlete.
2. Athletes must maintain a distance of 6 bicycles (12 meters) between each bicycle, except when overtaking the cyclist in front of them. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a "Drafting" violation. Athletes who violate the rules will be notified immediately by a race official. The race official will proceed as follows:
3. The official will notify the athlete that they have received a BLUE card for Drafting or littering, or a YELLOW card for other penalties. The race official will show the athlete the penalty card with the corresponding color.
4. The race official will instruct the athlete to report the penalty at the next PB (Penalty Box/penalty tent).
5. The athlete must report at the next PB that they have received a BLUE or YELLOW card. Failing to report correctly will result in automatic disqualification. In the Penalty Box (PB), the officials will mark the athlete’s number with the symbol "/". The athlete must sign the PB registration sheet. In cases where the athlete has received a BLUE card for Drafting or littering, they must remain in the PB for the time indicated by the race officials based on the official table.
6. Athletes who accumulate THREE BLUE PENALTIES will be disqualified.
7. Overtaken athletes must drop back 12 meters (6 bicycles) before attempting to overtake again. Attempting to pass without completing this distance will result in a Drafting penalty.
8. Athletes who block the progress of other cyclists will receive a BLOCKING penalty.
9. Helmets, cycling shoes, and any other gear to be used during the cycling stage must remain in the transition area. Athletes must wear shoes and a shirt throughout the race.
10. "Bib numbers" must be worn only during the run (in the front). Wearing it on the bike is optional (on the back).
11. Athletes must wear helmets that meet safety standards (CPSC approved) throughout the race, including the transition area. Athletes racing without a helmet or with an unfastened helmet strap will be disqualified. Helmets must not be altered in a way that affects their integrity.
12. Individual assistance is not allowed. There will be enough food and assistance at aid stations. Family, friends, coaches, or the general public may NOT drive, ride, or run alongside athletes, nor can they hand athletes food, liquids, or any items, as this will result in disqualification. Athletes are responsible for immediately refusing any kind of assistance or support. Water bottles must be discarded at the start or end of the hydration zone. Athletes will receive a penalty if they discard water bottles outside this zone.
13. Athletes are responsible for repairing and maintaining their own bicycles. They must be prepared to address any mechanical issues. However, it is allowed to receive assistance from race officials and the official mechanical team outside this zone.
14. Athletes must follow the instructions and directions of event officials and public authorities. Failure to comply with this condition will result in disqualification.
15. Athletes may walk with their bicycles if necessary but may not continue in the race without their respective bicycles.
16. Athletes must mount and dismount their bicycles in the designated areas. Mounting and dismounting within the transition zone is not allowed. HEADPHONES, EARPHONES, iPods, CELL PHONES, or any other distracting devices ARE NOT ALLOWED IN ANY STAGE OF THE COMPETITION. All athletes still on the course at the time of the time cut-off will be picked up by the organization and transported to the transition zone. Athletes who are picked up on the course will not be allowed to continue in the race. Once athletes complete the cycling stage, they must cross the timing mats in the transition area and change into their running gear. (It is not allowed to undress in public). Athletes must leave their bicycles on their “Bike Rack” in an organized manner, as there will be athletes entering the transition area after them. Please place your other personal items in your bike area and out of the walkways used by athletes in competition. After the race, collect your bicycle and personal items from the transition area, ensuring that nothing on your bicycle is loose, such as spokes, brakes, cables, etc. Adjust the wheels and handlebars properly. Make sure cables and tires are in good condition, secure your gear, and keep everything together before carrying it out of the transition area. It is forbidden to litter. Any objects (paper, bottles, gels, broken bicycle parts, etc.) must be discarded in designated trash areas. Littering outside designated areas will result in a BLUE card penalty. Only chemical toilets are allowed. Using any private and/or public property will result in disqualification.
Put on your race bib with your athlete number; it is mandatory to wear it visibly during the running stage.
There will be 2 hydration stations located along the cycling course, offering 3 hydration opportunities, specifically:
If you require medical assistance, the organization will transport you to the medical tent for treatment. Depending on your condition, you may be taken to the nearest hydration point for aid, or if it's an urgent situation, an ambulance will transfer you to the closest hospital for necessary care . Aid for athletes SAG (Support and Gear) provides transportation for athletes who are unable to complete the bike course and need or want support to return to the transition area.
Mechanical service will be available before, during, and after the race. Before the race, athletes will have access to bike assembly and tuning services at the IRONMAN EXPO.
