Malcolm Niven, exitoso empresario y propietario de Rancho Don Tomás, en San Luís Potosí, desarrolló un método para facilitar el uso de la inseminación artificial en la ganadería. El Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo también consultó a su asesor y maestro el Dr. Raymond Zemjanis quien lo impulsó a seguir desarrollando el Método "TORITO". El Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo siempre ha estado en contacto con el trabajo de campo y con la gente que lo realiza. Esto le ha permitido vivir la realidad de la problemática del campo. ### **DESARROLLO** A pesar de los grandes esfuerzos de varios maestros por difundir el uso y aplicación de las técnicas de inseminación artificial en México, la utilización por los pequeños ranchos ha sido mínimo a lo deseable, en comparación con los grandes ranchos lecheros que cuentan con los medios para contratar técnicos o médicos veterinarios de tiempo completo. Con el Ing. Malcolm Niven, el Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo tuvo la oportunidad de experimentar y ampliar su trabajo en el uso de hormonas para la sincronización del ciclo estral y el emprender el desafío de la técnica "El Torito" Durante los años de 1966 a 1970\. El Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo expuso sus evidencias para diseñar un sistema para mejorar el sistema tradicional. Un sistema que no necesariamente se introdujera un aplicador de metal por el cuello hasta llegar al útero, introduciendo la mano por el recto y sosteniendo el cuello del útero. Con su nuevo método sin meter la mano por el recto, a través de la vagina llegando a la entrada del cuello se empuja el semen al interior del útero. El Ing. Niven empezó a producir diferentes diseños de dispositivos según estudios del Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo que se encargó del resto de la investigación. Esto fue un trabajo de mucho tiempo, años, pero poco a poco se fue desarrollando y perfeccionando el concepto, para que cualquier persona lo pueda aplicar. Se realizó un primer estudio que se publicó en el XIII Congreso Internacional de Reproducción Animal en Australia. Se ha trabajando con esta técnica en diferentes ranchos de México hasta la fecha, inseminándose entre 5 y 10 mil vacas con esta técnica "El Torito" (del Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo) permitiendo que la gente poco a poco vaya conociendo los buenos resultados. En el transcurso del tiempo y el uso de esta técnica se han logrado muy buenos porcentajes de concepción, tanto como los del mejor técnico inseminador, alcanzando entre 60 y hasta 90% de vacas preñadas con un solo servicio con pequeños productores. El Instituto Politécnico Nacional, apoyó este proyecto con la realización de un video educativo, con el cual muchas personas han aprendido a usar la técnica. Actualmente se siguen realizando esfuerzos para que esta técnica llegue a más pequeños productores que aún no aprovechan la oportunidad de mejorar su ganado utilizando la inseminación artificial. Últimamente se han hecho cambios muy importantes que han hecho aún más fácil y más efectivo el método. ### **COMPONENTES** El equipo consiste en materiales desechables y no desechables. Quedaron gestantes 25 vacas al primer servicio, repitieron calor 5, de las cuales 3 quedaron gestantes al segundo servicio. En mi opinión como técnico y como ganadero, el método del Torito me ha dejado muy satisfecho ya que es muy fácil aprender a usarlo y es muy efectivo. En mi rancho el hijo de mi vaquero es el que insemina las vacas cuando no estoy yo, es un niño de 12 años y aprendió en una hora de práctica. Gracias Dr. Marco A. L., and the creator of the device "El Torito". Malcolm Niven, successful entrepreneur and owner of Rancho Don Thomas, in San Luis Potosi, develop a method to facilitate the use of artificial insemination in animal husbandry. Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo also consulted with your counselor and teacher Dr. Raymond Zemjanis who urged him to continue to develop the method "TORITO". Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo has always been in contact with the field work and the people who performs it. This has allowed him to live the reality of the problems of the field. ### **DEVELOPMENT** Despite the best efforts of several teachers to spread the use and application of the techniques of artificial insemination in Mexico, the use by small farms has been minimal to what is desirable, in comparison with the large dairy farms that have the means to hire technicians veterinary medical or full-time. With the Ing. Malcolm Niven, Dr. Marco A. Dr. Marco A. Hidalgo presented his evidence to design a solution that improves on the traditional system.
